The Life Between Who You Were and Who You Are Becoming
There is a particular kind of discomfort that arrives not from crisis, but from transition — the unsettled space between the person someone used to be and the person they sense they are becoming. This space rarely receives the attention it deserves. IDENTITY IN MOTION During transition, identity feels less like a fixed fact and more like something in motion — old roles no longer fitting comfortably, new ones not yet fully formed. This instability is often a necessary phase, not a problem to be urgently solved. THE DISCOMFORT OF NOT YET KNOWING One of the hardest aspects of transition is the discomfort of not yet knowing who one is becoming. Many people attempt to resolve this discomfort prematurely, simply to escape the ambiguity. PATIENCE AS AN ACTIVE PRACTICE Patience, in this context, is not passive waiting. It is an active practice of remaining present with uncertainty without forcing false resolution. OLD PATTERNS RESURFACE DURING TRANSITION It is common, during transition, for old patterns or insecurities to resurface. This is often the psyche revisiting unresolved material precisely because a genuine shift is underway. CONSCIOUS EVOLUTION OVER REACTIVE CHANGE Reactive change happens to a person, often in response to external pressure. Conscious evolution happens through a person, guided by increasing self-awareness even amid uncertainty. HONOURING THE IN-BETWEEN Perhaps the most compassionate thing a person can offer themselves is permission to not yet have all the answers, honouring the transition itself as a meaningful part of the journey. At The Wishing Well, we hold space for exactly this in-between — not rushing anyone toward resolution, but honouring the conscious, patient evolution transition asks of us.
